GOD dammit, why did THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX have to be so good? Now I have to revise my best of 2009 list (not to mention my best of the decade list) in order to fit it in.
Although the studios made the funniest, most screwball mistake somehow, and put the trailer hype ("Will change the way you watch movies") for the FANTASTIC MR. FOX onto the preview for AVATAR instead. hahaha! What a silly mistake! Between guffaws I mentioned the gaff to one of the ushers at the theatre, and I am told this idiocy will be rectified right away. Thank goodness!
I mean, clearly yet more overblown cliche-ridden technicolor videogame graphics (which appear in every single big budget hollywood FX movie) are not anywhere as original as wicked-ass stopmotion puppetry, the highly skilled use of which is treasured by anyone with any modicum of interest in filmic artistry (as well as awesomeness). AVATAR, with its plot cribbed from FERNGULLY (1992), and said videogame graphics depicting imagery about as fresh as a 1979 issue of Heavy Metal Magazine could never seriously, with a straight face, be considered the catalyst for "changing the way you watch movies".
Oh Hollywood hype-machine! You're just adorable! Haha, one day you'll get it right.
You know, it's starting to look more and more like CINEMA SEWER time! Check out the cover art by Bob Fingerman:

I've been doing dozens of drawings in books in the last few weeks, but I haven't been able to show you guys any of them since I didn't have photoshop and all my scans without it look like yak dung. I downloaded a 30 day trial version of CS4 for the time being, so hopefully I can get something going with PS by the end of the month. It's a band aid, but I had to get something.
So yeah, ass-spread. I draw variations of this pose a lot, I know. But you draw what you're passionate about, right? Of course you do. And ladies asses are pretty much the main thing on my mind most of the time. I'm guessing my sex drive will die a little by the time I'm 60, but until then you get 25 more years of this:

25 YEARS. That is a lot of assholes.

What? You don't have the Cinema Sewer book with a free drawing by Mr. Bougie in it? Why, that is just foolish. Who would pass up such an balls-out offer? Stop what you're doing and paypal some monies right this moment to:

Holy shit. This list was *hard* to do. I spent about 8 hours on it. Just remembering everything was a total bitch. I'm still not totally concrete on the placings, and it could well change quite a bit when I print it in Cinema Sewer in Feb. Haha, shit, I spent hours just moving the placement and rankings around... mostly ranking stuff higher depending on how eager I am to watch it over and over. Amazing movies that I only need to see once got ranked far lower. "Black Book" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" are good examples of that.
The only 2 rules I gave myself was that it had to have had a theatrical screening (which unfortunately knocks out 99% of the great porn DVDs that came out, and a lot of awesome BBC documentaries such as "The Dark Side of Porn" and "Planet Earth"), and it had to been released from Jan 2000 to Dec 2009. Needless to say, there are still many terrific movies which I have not seen (Let the Right One In, Anvil, The Fantastic Mr Fox, Little Children, etc) but I don't care how much of a film nerd you are, there are only so many hours in the day. You never get to see everything that is good.

So what is your top 10?

PS:
Stay tuned for tomorrow. I am gonna put together my (drumroll......): TOP 100 FILMS OF THE DECADE!
I'm into 60s girl groups, and even moreso the really obscure ones that I've been finding out about thanks to amazingly well put together CD compilation series such as WHERE THE GIRLS ARE and GIRLS IN THE GARAGE. One of the groups that I like the most are this Shangri-Las sounding group called THE PUSSYCATS (also sometimes credited as "Puss'n'Boots", but I think that is a grievous error). You can find "The Rider" on Girls in The Garage vol 7, "I Want Your Love" on Where The Girls Are vol 5, and "Dressed in Black", on "One Kiss Can Lead To Another: Girl Group Sounds Lost And Found".
There is next to no info available on these girls, and to date only 4 songs (on two singles recorded by Columbia Records in 1965) have ever turned up. It's probably all they ever recorded. There are no photos of the group to be found, and no one knows their names. We do know that they were produced by Shangri-Las guru Artie Butler, which would explain the similar arrangement and sound. I guess the mystery is kinda what makes them so cool, but the music goes a long way towards doing that as well. These kittens had CLAWS.
Seriously. Their music is just fantastic. I mean, "I Want Your Love" is just mind blowing and sexy -- music to play while you give a hand-job in a hot-rod, if you're prone to such lascivious activites. And check out the cold weirdness of "The Rider" and that oddball abrupt ending it has. Both these songs are just so fantastic, so have a listen:

This artchick in New York, Tara Sin, put a buncha work into a fan-vid for THE RIDER, so that is kinda neat. Nice going, Tara! She does a lot of cool stuffs: http://www.babydinosaureyes.com/

Also: sorta-related... Scarlet Johannson as trampy trailer-trash.

Sweden's Symfoniorkestern have just released this new 5 song EP called "Tänd eld på dig själv (för det du tror på)". It's pretty dope, and the songs range in tempo and style from the poppy title track, to the electronic wiggles of “Elektron Kukéso”, to the frenzied synth of “Del 3″. They spent a year and a half making this record.
The single and video for "Tand Eld Pa Dig Sjalv" are just peachy, and I was kinda surprised that only 700 people have seen it on youtube since they put it up last month. I knew they were just a tiny lil' blonde band from the other side of the planet singing in a language most of us can't understand, but c'mon.
So, help me spread the word!
Symfoniorkestern! Yell it when you're fucking!

One of my LJ friends was almost killed yesterday by someone who feel asleep at the wheel of their truck:
http://daylight-broke.livejournal.com/2 10524.html
I mean, holy shit. That is sobering stuff. I would have cried too.
About 7 years ago I was hit by a minivan at the intersection of Oak and 16th ave here in Vancouver, while riding my bike across a crosswalk on my way to work. (I had the walk light). I heard the van coming, turned, and the last thing I saw before it hit me was the grill of the van. Time did not slow down for me like it did for "daylight broke", although I do remember my last thought was: "oh shit this is going to hurt".
I was thrown from my bike, and hit the pavement right as the van came to a stop in front of me. I reached up and put my hand on the bumper -- that is how close it was to running over me a second time.
I jumped to my feet almost as fast as I had hit the ground, and I looked right at the driver. She was a woman in her 30s, and she had been driving her van with her dog on her lap. The dog was going INSANE. Barking like crazy. I turned, grabbed my bike (the seat got turned all the way around backwards, and was in that position so tight I needed a wrench to turn it back around!) and I walked it to the sidewalk, where two teenagers were marvelling at what they had seen. The woman in the van yelled "oh my god, are you ok?!" and I waved and smiled and said that I was fine. Oddly, I wasn't mad, but I felt totally embarrassed for some reason. I found out later that I was in shock.
I had no serious injuries, and so I walked my bike the block I had to go to get to work at Rogers Video. I felt like I could do my work at double speed, and I walked in laughing about how I had survived getting hit, but about 30 minutes later I felt like I had the worst flu of my entire life. My entire body felt like one giant bruise. I had to go home about an hour into my shift, and even laying down in my bed made me ache like crazy.

So this 40 year old guy (Shane Lee from Garden City, Georgia) is probably the worst beatboxer in the history of the internet. And that is saying something. He posted this video back in July:
No one really took any notice of that though. Then he posted this travesty in August:
Again, no one really cared. But ala William Hung, his awesome lameness seems to be now rocketing him into stardom. In the last month he's gone viral and picked up nearly a million views for those two videos alone. And yes, the Shane Lee train has already made a few stops into the remix station. Some of them are far too splendiferous though, so I will put them under this cut to protect the innocent and those at work. Here is what you can expect:
1. A lady gets to know some dinosaurs
2. A photo reminds me of this one time in elementary school when some older kids invaded my country, killed a whole bunch of people on my block, and then "borrowed" my pink bike (SHUT UP, we were poor!) while the other kids laughed and called me a "faggot".
3. Some flies chill at the beach.
4. Racoons decide that walking all the way to 46th ave is way too much fucking effort.
5. A girl crochets what I imagine she hoped would be a cute hat. It isn't. It's disturbing.
6. Pork chop sandwiches.
